LEGI - an overview
Local Enterprise Growth Initiative is national government funding designed to help councils in deprived areas boost entrepreneurship, local business and employment as well as the overall regeneration of the district.
Areas bid for funding and go through a rigorous selection procedure. Awards are made to those which prove themselves to be the most capable of making a targeted, long-term difference in their communities. This includes evidence that the private, public and voluntary sectors can and do work together.
Wansbeck was one of 10 local councils across the UK to receive a slice of the LEGI funding totalling £157m in the second round of awards, announced in December 2006.
Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI) is a joint programme between Communities and Local Government, HM Treasury and the Department for Trade and Industry.
