Wansbeck is Enterprising Champion

The nationwide Enterprising Britain 2009 competition recognises the place where enterprise has helped transform a community and led to improved economic prospects for the area. 

Tim Pain, One North East’s Head of Business, Enterprise and Skills chaired the regional judging panel. He said: “Wansbeck has long since been recognised as a deprived area with a number of socio-economic problems and enterprise is essential in order to diversify and grow a sustainable economy. That is exactly what Go Wansbeck has set out to do and the area is reaping the rewards of its efforts.  Go Wansbeck is an excellent example of a programme with achievable long-term aims and the backing of passionate people who wish to transform the area and help it to make strides and significant economic change”. 

“Being shortlisted for the Enterprising Britain title is a fantastic achievement and a great way of putting our region on the map and I’d like to wish Go Wansbeck the best of luck in the national competition and continued success in this inspirational project.” 

Keith Raine, programme manager of Go Wansbeck, said: “This is recognition of the hard work of the Go Wansbeck team, but also – more importantly – a tribute to the new and established businessmen and women who are doing so much to transform the area.  We are delighted to receive this accolade and look forward to the next stage of this prestigious competition.” He added: “Longer term Wansbeck is on target to be the most enterprising area in the North East by 2017 when it will boost high levels of business creation and growth, self employment and private investment.”
